Economic MPC-Based Planning for Marine Vehicles: Tuning Safety and Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency and safety are two critical objectives for marine vehicles operating in environments with obstacles, they generally conflict each other. This paper proposes a novel online motion planning method vehicles, which can take practical limitations into account make trade-offs between the by exploiting economic model predictive control (EMPC) technique. To achieve this, trajectory generation is first proposed, provides smooth reference evolved from safest path facilitates measurement of degree. Then EMPC-based framework, accounts system environmental constraints, energy consumption, margin, proposed after tailored cost function designed. Furthermore, receding horizon strategy developed framework explicitly addresses non-negligible calculation time limited detection range. Finally, effectiveness feasibility also validated through experiments.
